എനിക്ക് Valluvar Kottam സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചു. തമിഴ് കവിയും തത്ത്വചിന്തകനുമായ തിരുവള്ളുവർക്കായി സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ചെന്നൈയിലെ ഒരു സ്മാരകമാണിത്. നഗരത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ തമിഴ് സാംസ്കാരിക കേന്ദ്രമാണിത്. ഈ കെട്ടിടം എന്റെ കോളേജിൽ നിന്ന് 1.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ്. ഈ സ്മാരകം തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെ അന്തരിച്ച മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി എം.കരുണാനിധിയുടെ സൃഷ്ടിയാണ്, 1976 ൽ അന്നത്തെ ഇന്ത്യൻ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഫക്രുദ്ദീൻ അലി അഹ്മദ് ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു.

തിരുവള്ളുവരുടെ പ്രതിമയും തിരുക്കുറൽ വാക്യങ്ങളും ചുവരിൽ പതിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് നമുക്ക് കാണാം. 1,300 വാക്യങ്ങൾ അടങ്ങുന്ന ഒരു ക്ലാസിക് തമിഴ് ഭാഷാ പാഠമാണ് തിരുക്കുറൽ. ഈ കൃതി ധാർമ്മികതയെയും നീതി ശാസ്ത്രത്തെയും കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഏറ്റവും മഹത്തായ രചനയായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

I got a chance to visit Valluvar Kottam. It is a monument in Chennai, dedicated to the classical Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar. It is the city’s biggest Tamil cultural center. This building is only 1.5 kms from my college. This monument is the creation of late CM of Tamil Nadu M.Karunanidhi and it was inaugurated by then Indian president Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad in 1976.

We can see Thiruvalluvar’s statue and Thirukural verses etched in the wall. Thirukural is a classic Tamil language text consisting of 1,300 short couplets.  This Work is considered as the greatest work ever written on ethics and morality.
