Afghanistan is known as the Graveyard of Empires. But actually it is the playground of Empires. Big nations like the Great Britain, Soviet Union, USA came to Afghanistan and turn it into a battle field. These nations came and went. They did not achieved anything. Thus Afghanistan became a graveyard of these empires. It is only the common people who suffered because of this endless war. Afghanistan was a playground for these nations. If we look the history it is only the selfish interest and dirty politics of these nations led to the raise of Taliban.

‘The Kite Runner’ written by Khaled Hosseini is a powerful book that will make an impact in everyone.

Amir and Hassan are the main characters of the book. The plot of the novel is set in the time of the fall off Afghanistan’s monarchy through Soviet invasion and the raise of Taliban regime.

The skies is full of kites. Amir and Hassan loves to fly kites. Their friendship was very strong. One day an unforgettable thing happened in their life. They got separated.

In this book, you can see a series of twists that will give you thrill.

 We can see a period when Afghanistan followed Western culture. Men and Women wore western style cloths. Women went to colleges and jobs. A modern Afghanistan existed in the past. But some Islam extremist did not like this. They said it was against their religion. They executed the president and declared civil war against the communist.

During that time the cruelty was at its peak. If women break Taliban rules, they are brought to a big ground. The gallery is full of people who are there to witness her death. The women were stonned to death. People were cheering and celebrating. Death bodies are used to hang in the public. The scenes of death bodies eaten up by dogs and other creatures. These kind of brutality is seen in this book.  

This is the story of hope and redemption. The author dream that a day will come again when colorful kites fly in the skies of Afghanistan again. The day when all the children play happily. A day when Afghanistan attain the glory.

It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even in a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime (lines from book)

സാമ്രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ ശ്മശാനം എന്നാണ് അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാൻ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ യഥാർത്ഥത്തിൽ അത് സാമ്രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ കളിസ്ഥലമാണ്. ഗ്രേറ്റ് ബ്രിട്ടൻ, സോവിയറ്റ് യൂണിയൻ, യുഎസ്എ തുടങ്ങിയ വലിയ രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾ അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാനിൽ വന്ന് അതിനെ ഒരു യുദ്ധക്കളമാക്കി മാറ്റി. ഈ രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾ വന്നുപോയി. അവർ ഒന്നും നേടിയില്ല. അങ്ങനെ അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാൻ ഈ സാമ്രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ ശ്മശാനമായി മാറി. ഈ അനന്തമായ യുദ്ധത്തിൻറെ അനന്തരഫലങ്ങൾ അനുഭവിച്ചത് സാധാരണക്കാർ മാത്രമാണ്. രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ കളിസ്ഥലമായിരുന്നു അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാൻ. നമ്മൾ ചരിത്രം നോക്കിയാൽ, ഈ രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളുടെ സ്വാർത്ഥ താൽപ്പര്യവും വൃത്തികെട്ട രാഷ്ട്രീയവും കാരണമാണ് താലിബാൻ ഉത്ഭവത്തിലേക്ക് നയിച്ചത്.

ആമിറും ഹസ്സനുമാണ് പുസ്തകത്തിലെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ. സോവിയറ്റ് അധിനിവേശത്തിലൂടെയും താലിബാൻ ഭരണകൂടത്തിന്റെ ഉയർച്ചയിലൂടെയും അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാന്റെ രാജവാഴ്ച അവസാനിച്ച സമയമാണ് നോവലിന്റെ ഇതിവൃത്തം.

ഇത് അന്യായമായിരിക്കാം, പക്ഷേ ഏതാനും ദിവസങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിൽ സംഭവിക്കുന്നത്, ചിലപ്പോൾ ഒരു ദിവസത്തിൽ പോലും, ഒരു ജീവിതകാലം മുഴുവൻ മാറ്റാൻ കഴിയും (പുസ്തകത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വരികൾ)
