San Thome

ഞാൻ San Thome കത്തീഡ്രൽ സന്ദർശിച്ചു. ഞാൻ വളരെക്കാലമായി സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ച സ്ഥലമായിരുന്നു ഇത്, ഇപ്പോൾ അത് സഫലമായി. ഈ പള്ളി ചെന്നൈയിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്.

ഈ പള്ളി വിശുദ്ധ തോമസിന് സമർപ്പിച്ചതാണ്. അദ്ദേഹം കർത്താവിൻറെ  12 അപ്പോസ്തലന്മാരിൽ ഒരാളായിരുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ക്രിസ്തുമതം പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കാൻ അദ്ദേഹം AD 52 ൽ ഇന്ത്യയിലെത്തി. AD 72 -ൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഈ സ്ഥലത്ത് വച്ച് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ശവകുടീരം ഈ സ്ഥലത്താണ്. യേശുവിന്റെ അപ്പോസ്തലന്റെ ശവകുടീരത്തിന് മുകളിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച ലോകത്തിലെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന മൂന്ന് പള്ളികളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഈ പള്ളി. വിശുദ്ധ ജെയിംസ് സ്പെയിനിൽ,   വിശുദ്ധ പീറ്റേഴ്സ് റോമിലും   വിശുദ്ധ തോമസ് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ.

1523 ൽ പോർച്ചുഗീസാണ് പള്ളി നിർമ്മിച്ചത്. പിന്നീട് 1896 ൽ ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ഇത് പുനർനിർമ്മിച്ചു. അടുത്തിടെ ഇത് പുനരുജ്ജീവിപ്പിച്ചു.

മികച്ച അന്തരീക്ഷമുള്ള ഒരു മികച്ച സ്ഥലമാണിത്. പള്ളിക്കുള്ളിൽ എനിക്ക് ശാന്തതയും സമാധാനവും തോന്നി. ചരിത്രപരമായ ഈ സ്ഥലം സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ എനിക്ക് ഒരു അവസരം ലഭിച്ചതിനാൽ ഞാൻ സന്തോഷവാനാണ്.

I visited Santhome Cathedral. This was a place which I long desired to visit, now it’s full filled. This church is one of the famous place in Chennai.

This church is dedicated to ST. Thomas, who was one of the 12 apostles. He is also known as doubting Thomas. He came to India in 52 AD to spread Christianity in India. In 72 AD, he was assassinated in this place. His tomb is in this place. This church is one of the only three known churches in the world built over the tomb of an apostle of Jesus. Tomb of ST. James in Spain, St. Peter’s in Rome and ST. Thomas in India.

It was the Portughese who constructed the church in 1523. Later it was rebuild by the British in 1896. Recently it was revived.

It’s great place with a great atmosphere. I felt calm and peace inside the church. I am happy, since I got an oppourtunity to visit this historic place.
